Wellington Clinics – outpatient services: $13 million
A major milestone for the $586 million Redevelopment was reached with the official opening of the Wellington Centre Clinics on 15 March 2013.
The $13 million Wellington Clinics facility in Argyle Street now provides improved patient access to outpatient services and has freed up space on the main hospital site for other improvements.
The Wellington Clinics contain a range of outpatient services including Ear, Nose and Throat; Eye; Orthopaedics; Audiology; Medical; Surgical; Hand Physiotherapy; Cardio Respiratory; Special Dental; Plaster and Oral Maxillo-Facial.
Women's Health Outpatients joined the Wellington Centre in 2014 and provides improved facilities for pregnant women, breast feeding support, gynaecology, colposcopy and gynaecology oncology.
A new Feto-Maternal Unit also opened providing specialised care for pregnant women with complex needs for example multiple pregnancies and comorbid health issues. The Feto-Maternal Unit means more women with complex pregnancies can stay at home longer, reducing the likelihood of hospital admissions by providing intensive outpatient care and monitoring.
The close proximity of the Wellington Clinics to the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) makes it easy for patients referred to and from other services on the hospital's main campus. The new clinics will also reduce pedestrian traffic on the main RHH campus during the redevelopment works.
The facility is supporting patients from all over the State who need to travel for specialised services. Thanks to the redevelopment they will be doing so in easy-to-access, state-of-the-art facilities.
